This series records the lavish festival that was held in Rome every year on the occasion of the presentation of a white horse ( chinea ) by the King of Spain, and later the King of the Two Sicilies, to the Pope in a mark of loyalty. The scenes show the machines or elaborate structures upon which the fireworks were disposed. The include large painted allegories called prospettive . This series covers Popes Innocent XIII through Benedict XIV.
