(Some occasional soiling.) Contemporary mottled calf (rebacked, some rubbing). Provenance : Henry Jardine (bookplate). FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, after the first edition in Italian of the previous year. The plates include 6 views of two ceremonial coaches, 2 folding plates of a table prepared for the festivities staged for the English Ambassador Extraordinary to the Holy See, ROGER PALMER 1634-1705), Earl of Castelmaine, on his envoy to Rome on January 8, 1687 to see POPE INNOCENT XI (1611-1689). The envoy was part of James II's unsuccessful scheme to restore the Catholic church to power in England. Six plates of the various centerpieces used at the banquet. Drugulin 3239; Wing W-3702.
