ROME 1686 -- Le pome funebri celebrate da' Signori Accademici Infecondi di Roma per la morte dell'Illustrissima Signora Elena Lucreza Cornara Piscopia Padua: Cadorino, 1686. 2 o (288 x 184 mm). Engraved portrait and 5 plates (three folding) after designs by TOMMASO CARDANO (plate four with small area repaired and supplied in manuscript, a few reinforcements on verso). (Title and dedication with some ink pen trials in an early hand, C2 misbound, some intermittent pale staining.) Modern vellum over pasteboard. Arranged by the Accademia degli'Infecondi, a literary academy of which ELENA LUCREZIA CORNARO PISCOPIA (1646-1684) had been one of its most outstanding members, the obsequies described here took place in a chapel in the college of the Barnabites adjoining S. Carlo de'Catinari at Rome. Cardano provided the temporary decorations for the occasion, and also engraved the plates for the present work. Elena Cornara was the first woman in the world to receive a doctor of philosophy degree. Berlin 3228; Cicognara 1477; Ruggieri 825; Vinet 797.
