ROMAN BRONZE HORSE BOW BROOCH Circa 3rd century AD. A cast bronze bow brooch in the form of a stylized horse with pricked ears, arched neck, D-shaped saddle and bobbed tail; the lower hindlegs developing into a headplate similar to a Roman crossbow brooch; the hinge-notch present on the headplate, the catchplate lost in antiquity. Bronze, 30 grams, 48 mm. Very fine condition; pin and catchplate lost in antiquity. Provenance Private collection, Nottinghamshire, UK; acquired late 1980's - early 1990's. Literature See Hattatt, R.
