Rochambeau was commander of the troops sent from France to aid the Americans in the revolutionary war. His Mémoires contain an account of the expedition from its arrival in Rhode Island in 1780 to the surrender of the British army at Yorktown in 1781. Scarce, the last copy apparently sold at auction (according to Rare Book Hub’s database) was at Anderson Galleries in 1935. Worldcat reports only 6 copies in American institutions.
