ROBERT FRANKLAND Indispensable Accomplishments . London: H. Humphrey, 24 June 1811. Oblong 2° (214 x 293mm), engraved title and 6 hand-coloured numbered engraved plates after Frankland (title browned and soiled, plate 3 with small colour stain), loose on blue paper mounts. SCARCE SERIES by an amateur artist which prompted Alken to publish his Qualified Horses and Unqualified Riders . Schwerdt I, p. 186. ALKEN, Henry. [ Sporting Notions . London: Tho s M c Lean, 1831-1833]. Oblong 2° (225 x 322mm), 36 uncoloured etched plates after Alken (first plate browned and soiled, three plates defaced with blue crayon, another browned, detached and frayed at edges, some marginal soiling and occasional short tears), original decorative boards with yellow title label (covers worn and detached, spine lacking). Issued without a title-page, the well-drawn plates representing "a series of curious incidents and unusual situations" for horse and rider. Schwerdt I, p. 23. (2)
