Provenance : Grace Scott (author's presentation inscription with loosely inserted autograph letter signed from the author to Miss Scott); by descent. FIRST EDITION. Grace Scott, younger sister to Captain Scott, was the fourth of the six Scott children. Her written memoirs of her brother are quoted extensively in Seaver's work ('I feel the book is by rights as much yours as mine': Seaver, in inserted ALS). [ With :] [F.E. MANING]. Old New Zealand . London: 1900. 8 (18.8 x 12.7cm.) (Some leaves somewhat crudely opened). Original cloth (soiled). Provenance : Robert Falcon Scott (ownership inscription 'R.F.Scott Christmas 1901'); by descent. Given the date of the inscription (the Discovery left New Zealand on 21 December 1901 and crossed the Antarctic circle on 3 January 1902), the present work would have joined the library that accompanied Scott's first expedition.
