Part 1 [and] Part the Second Author: Paine, Thomas Place: London Publisher: Printed for the Booksellers Date: 1792 Description: 2 volumes in 1. vi, 98; 119, [4] appendix pp. (12mo) 6¾x4, half morocco and boards. Part I is mainly a reply to Burke's 'Reflections on the Revolution in France', attacking him for his 'rancour, prejudice and ignorance'. Paine alleges that Burke cares only for the forms of chivalry, and not for the nation, 'he pities the plumage, and forgets the dying bird'. Part II compares the new French and American constitutions with those of British institutions to the detriment of the latter. It also contains Paine's far-sighted proposals for tax reform, family allowances, maternity grants, &c. Lot Amendments Condition: Heavily rubbed extremities; some smudging, erasure marks, and tiny hole at the bottom of each imprint, marginal smudges to pages; else internally very good.
