Relazione delle solenni esequie celebrate ... a sua maestà la Reina di Sardigna Polissena Giovanna Cristina . Milan: Giuseppe Richino Malatesta, 1735. 2° (375 x 233mm). Engraved title vignette and 11 engraved plates (6 folding) by Marcantonio Dal Re after Francesco Croce engraved historiated initial and headpiece, type-ornaments. (One tear into image neatly repaired without loss, two very short marginal tears.) 19th-century polished maroon half calf (discreet repairs at spine). On the death of his second wife Polissena Giovanna Cristina of Essen at the young age of 27, Carlo Emanuele III, King of Sardinia, ordered that she be commemorated with a state funeral. The city of Milan participated in mourning her with solemn funeral rites officiated by Bishop Carlo Boffi in the Duomo. The book gives an accurate description of the decoration of the church by the architect Francesco Croce and the inscriptions in praise of the Queen composed by Count Giambattista Trotti which were carved in marble plates. The rich decorations are represented in large engravings, one of which is of particular interest as showing the Duomo in its unfinished state. The account also includes the oration held by Senator Don Antonio Stoppani. Cicognara 1500; Lipperheide Si 40; Vinet 599.
