Leipzig, Hofmeister, 1834-36. 5 volumes, 4° (352 x 271 mm). 359 (of 360, lacks plate 150) hand-colored lithographed plates (some light browning and staining). Contemporary half cloth, leather lettering-piece on spines (some rubbing and wear to edges). FIRST EDITION . Based on van Geel's Sertum Botanicum (Brussels 1827-32) with the German text by Reichenbach. A valuable contemporary record of recently introduced ornamental trees, shrubs, and flowering plants, overseen by the “Société de Botanistes,” and reflecting the growing strength of botanical research in Belgium at this period.
