Beschreibung:

RAYMOND GID (1905-2000) VAMPYR. 1932. 31 1/4x23 1/2 inches, 79 1/2x59 3/4 cm. Condition A. Raymond Gid studied architecture at the L'École des Beaux arts, but never put those studies into practice. Instead, he became an accomplished poster artist, designing many movie posters, the first of which was this image for Vampyr . This poster was commissioned for the opening of Raspail 216, an avant-garde cinema located in Montparnasse. As Gid wrote, he "tried to give a synthetic vision of the mysterious atmosphere of the work." He mixed photography and drawing to create a collage of contrasts, between highlights and shadows, and realism and abstraction. He also used this technique in the same year for Histoires Extraordinaires, based on Edgar Allen Poe's book, for the opening of Cinema Pigalle. rare . Raymond Gid p. 19.
