Instead, he became an accomplished poster artist, designing many movie posters, the first of which was this image for Vampyr . This poster was commissioned for the opening of Raspail 216, an avant-garde cinema located in Montparnasse. As Gid wrote, he "tried to give a synthetic vision of the mysterious atmosphere of the work." He mixed photography and drawing to create a collage of contrasts, between highlights and shadows, and realism and abstraction.
