Lot of 3, including: a brass match safe featuring a bull moose on one side, and a hunter on reverse, believed to be Theodore Roosevelt, with his dog at his side, aiming his gun at a possum, believed to be "Billy Possum," hiding in the tree. This detailed scene represents Roosevelt's dissatisfaction with William H. Taft, who is depicted as "Billy Possum" here, which led to a split in the Republican Party and Roosevelt's formation of the Progressive Party, also known as the "Bull Moose Party," in 1912. 1.375 x 2.25 in.; plus brass match safe featuring a portrait of Roosevelt inserted on one side, and the bull moose on reverse, 1.5 x 2.75 in.; and a brass match safe with a portrait of Taft inserted on one side, and the same Roosevelt hunting "Billy Possum" scene on reverse, 1.375 x 2.25 in.
