Hand-colored engraving, 8.125 x 14.5 in. (sight, including margins), framed, 10.5 x 16.75 in. A View of Col. Johnson's Engagement with the Savages (Commanded by Tecumseh) near the Moravian Town, October 5, 1812. Abel Bowen 1828. A dramatic engraving portraying the battle between American forces under the command of Colonel Richard M. Johnson and American Indians under the command of Tecumseh, who were allied with the British. Detailed action is presented at center, with Johnson on horseback engaged with an Indian wielding a tomahawk, an American soldier engaging with an Indian, and an Indian in the act of scalping a fallen soldier. Tecumseh is shown standing in the foreground, at the far right. Significant elements of the scene are numbered and described in a corresponding key printed below. Condition: Some vertical folds throughout, with slight separation and few holes at few folds. Some soiling near few folds as well. Few scattered spots. Not examined outside frame, but there appear to be a few slight areas of loss along edges/corners, including lower left corner and lower right corner.
