Rare Chippendale Figured Walnut Slant Front Desk-on-FrameSoutheastern PennsylvaniaCirca 1760
Height 45 1/2 in. by Width 44 1/4 in. by Depth 12 in.Condition reportIn overall very fine condition. Secondary woods are poplar, white pine, yellow pine, and Atlantic white cedar. There is a small half-inch diamond shaped patch on the middle of the lid and a small quarter-inch patch around the lock on the lid interior. Remnants of red paint behind the legs. Hardware replaced.

A walnut desk-on-frame of similar form is in the collection of Winterthur Museum (acc. no. 1958.2263) and illustrated in Joseph Downs, American Furniture (New York: The MacMillan Company, 1952), no. 220. Another closely related desk-on-frame is in the Biggs Museum of American Art's collection (see Philip D. Zimmerman, The Sewell C. Biggs Collection of American Art: A Catalogue, vol 1, (Dover, DE: Biggs Museum of American Art, 2002), pp. 70-1, no. 52).
