Objektsbeskrivning THE RARE "SEA-ATLAS" BY NORDENANKAR. NORDENANKAR, JOHAN. "Sjö-atlas". 1788-1798. Complete with 11 engraved charts on thick paper, including the two general-maps, c. 640x960 mm., partly spotted, some slight dampstaining to lower margins on most maps, a few with old folds (see below). Together with 3 smaller charts of lake Vänern from 1788, which are not always present. The maps are engraved by Fredrik Akrel and Erik Åkerland. Bound in late 19th century half calf binding with marbled boards, upper board with red title label, spine in compartments. Imperial-folio (c. 705x540 mm.). The atlas consists of the following charts: 1. General-charta till Sveriges sjö-atlas första delen (1797, mounted on paper, some repaired tears, some small damages to one margin, some spotting, a few small ink strokes on the engraving) 2. General-charta till Sveriges sjö-atlas andra delen (1795, fold, small tear to margin corner, faint dampstain) 3. Pass-charta öfver Cattegatt (1787, some spotting) 4. Pass charta öfver Bälterne, Sundet och S.Wstra delen af Östersjön (1785, some foxing) 5. Pass charta öfver S.O:ostra delen af Östersjön (1786, some foxing) 6. Charta öfver midden delen af Östersjön, tillika med Rigiska Wiken (1787) 7. Pass charta öfver Nra delen af Östersjön, Ålands haf med Sdra Delen af Botten-hafwet (1790, some foxing) 8. The charts were first published in 1782-1797. These are the first editions. Johan Nordenfalk (1722-1804), Swedish Vice Admiral, marine cartographer from Småland in Sweden. Enobled in 1756.
