A rare and early 17th Century pre-balance spring key wind oval puritan pocket watchDate: Circa 1650 Movement: Gilt oval plates with engraved border, pieced and engraved pinned balance cock, blued steel set up spring and ratchet wheel, plain steel two arm balance wheel, round vase form balustar pillars, fusee with gut line Dial: Polished silver background, applied gilt chapter ring, engraved roman numerals, single blued steel hour hand Case: Polished silver oval case, circular aperture for glass with engraved inner beading, cover for winding hole, plain ring pendent Signed: Movement Size: Without pendant 39mm x 32mm FootnotesA Ralph or Raphe Ash(e) is recorded as being a member of the Clockmakers' Company between Circa 1647-56 and probably died before 1660.
