[RAILROAD]. Michigan Central Rail Road. Chicago to Detroit connecting with Great Western Railway. Buffalo: Thomas & Lathrops, 1857. Chromolithograph poster or broadside printed in red, green and black, on old linen, 3 vignettes of Chicago’s Great Central Station, a suspension bridge crossing Niagara Falls, and a map of the Midwest (general wear, losses at corners, some losses affecting the first vignette, spotting and toning). Framed, sheet 28 x 21 ¼”. Chicago’s Great Central Station was opened in 1856 at South Water Street and Michigan Avenue, and for a time was the largest building in downtown Chicago. The station was damage but survived the Great Fire in 1871 but was soon demolished in favor of the new Central Station in 1893. This is a rare pre-fire image of this great Chicago station shown shortly after its construction. We could not locate any other examples. [With:] Great Western Railway…Mich. Central Rail Road to Chicago… Buffalo: Clapp, Matthews & Co., 1856. Chromolithograph poster or broadside printed in red and black, 2 vignettes of a suspension bridge crossing Niagara Falls and a map of the Midwest (some losses and soiling near edges). Frame, sheet 20 x 20”. [And:] Copper Range Railroad map between Chicago and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Circa 1900s. Framed, sheet 35 x 17”. Together, 3 framed posters.
