Lee, CSA General and later Commander of the Army of Northern Virginia), one and one-quarter page ALS (signature on reverse), Aug. 24, 1861 war-date military field letter to 'Col. A. Beckley, Viga Vol: Camp Shady Spring (Va. now W. Va.)', letter headed 'Hd. Qrs. Valley Mt. (Va. now W. Va.)', contents regard assignment of newly formed companies of volunteers, '...as regards all your military operations you will conform to the instructions of Genl. Jno. B. Floyd, with whom you will report for orders' , 7½ x 9¾" on blue-lined stationery, several file folds not affecting signature, very fine, a rare R.E. Lee field letter written prior to Lee's very first campaign of the War in what is now West Virginia photo
