R. Crumb Handwritten Letter, c. 2010 [with] Five Business Cards featuring R. Crumb Art Author: Crumb, Robert Place: Publisher: Date: Description: Original letter hand-written by R. Crumb in pencil on 8.5" x 11" paper. Undated. Signed "R. Crumb." Very fine letter with light offsetting and small stain; cards NM. Crumb's 21st c. epistolary technique is as follows: his brother-in-law Alex prints out emails addressed to Crumb; the un-tech-savvy Crumb writes his response on paper; Alex transcribes the handwritten letter into email, sends the email to the correspondent and saves the letter. A collector has latterly made an exclusive deal to obtain Crumb's handwritten email drafts; thus, these "email letters" are now essentially off the market. "If I understand correctly, you want to use the image from the Pepper & Stern cover on a business card??" Crumb's reply to a Mr. Isaacson, who requested permission to use Crumb's art on a business card. Crumb agrees, but cautions that the level of detail may not reproduce well at business card size. Included with the letter are five business cards for Crumb's close friend and documentarian, Terry Zwigoff, with Crumb artwork and/or lettering, together with a signed letter from Zwigoff to publisher Jeffrey Weinberg of Water Row Press.
