SAFAVID HERAT, THIRD QUARTER 16TH CENTURY
Arabic manuscript on paper, 180ff. plus two flyleaves, each folio with 15ll. comprising 12ll. black naskh split into two panels by larger lines of gold muhaqqaq, gold illuminated verse roundels, the interstices with a gold illuminated pendant, set within gold and polychrome rules, sura titles in white thuluth reserved against gold and polychrome cartouches, the margins plain with gold and polychrome illuminated medallions to mark divisions, the opening bifolio with 4ll black naskh and central gold thuluth line set within densely illuminated gold and polychrome margins, in modern gilt tooled binding, the doublures gilt leather with facing leather flyleaf, the illumination with some restoration, overall very good condition
