PUTTAERT, Émile Album with watercoloured drawings. 1871-Oblong 12mo: ff., drawings in black ink (one with pencil, and one with pencil and ink), grey, black or brown wash, occ. heightened with white, 5 drawings without wash, one continuing on facing verso, with ms. captions and dates. Black buckram, flat spine. Nice album figuring mainly rural and countryside views of cities, sometimes with one or two characters, but also some city streets. The drawings depict Brussels (the Sablon, Auderghem (pond of the Rouge Cloître), Anderlecht, the "rue Terarken"), Ghent (Gravensteen, mills), Antwerp (Het Steen), Berseel (castle), Gaesbeek (castle), Vlezenbeek (church, mill), Mechelen (the Brusselpoort), Leuven, Bruges (Kruyspoort and the Minnewater), and Waterloo. Émile Puttaert (1829-was a painter, wood-engraver and architectural draughtsman. He contributed, as an illustrator, to "La Belgique illustrée", "Anvers à travers les âges", "L'illustration européenne", etc. He is a priceless source for the history and architecture of our regions. With his name calligraphed on front flyleaf. Prov. Émile Puttaert, "rue de l'Étang, Etterbeek" (bookpl.).
