The first edition was published in latin 1696, and a second latin edition in 1729. In 1697 a french edition was also published. The writing of this official history of the Swedish wars with Poland and Denmark from 1655 to 1660 was entrusted by king Charles XI to Samuel Pufendorf, a German historian and expert on international law, who held the first chair of history at the new university of Lund (1668-1676) and was the official Historiographer of the Realm from 1676 until 1689.
