Psalterium in quatuor linguis: Hebraea, Graeca, Chaldaea, Latina. Cologne: [Johann Soter], 1518. a-y6, ç6, &5. Title within broad woodcut border. Folio (280 x 190 mm). Eighteenth century calf, rebacked and recornered. Light browning, 3 or 4 wormholes throughout, without final blank and the rarely-found 8 pp Introductionculae. The second book to be printed in the Ge'ez language, and the first polyglot to include Ethiopic, wrongly identified as Chaldaean in the title. Adams B137; Darlow & Moule 1413. Provenance: Henry Howard [1628-1684], 6th Duke of Norfolk, presented to the Royal Society in 1667 (their ink donation stamp on title). The Royal Society sold 549 items from this donation to the British Museum in 1831—presumably this copy duplicated BM holdings and was thus deaccessed. See illustration.
