"Tel-Aviv Municipality", architectural drawing by Dov Hershkovitz, municipal architect. Tel-Aviv, [ca.1925]. Drawing of an impressing building, decorated with colorful ceramic tiles manufactured by "Bezalel" with illustrations of lions, wine twigs and grapes. The first municipality building (on Bialik Street) was originally built as a prestigious hotel by the American Skora family in 1925, but due to the economic crisis the hotel has never been opened. The Tel-Aviv municipality was situated at the time in the "Beit HaVa'ad" (see next item), under the water tower on Rothschild Boulevard. When there was not enough room for all the functions, a competition was announced for building a permanent edifice for the municipality. Temporarily, till the completion of the new building, the hotel was rented from the Skora family to house the municipality. The temporary stay turned into a permanent one and the Tel-Aviv municipality was there for 43 years, until 1968, and the architectural plan of Dov Hershkovitz was canceled. 62.5X32 cm. Good condition. Folding-marks and several stains.
