In 1780 the sitter married Rev. Thomas Pemberton, who commissioned this portrait after Romney had painted his father Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Pemberton (1714 - 1800), and his brother Francis (1742 - 1794).1 1. Both portraits of the Pemberton men are in private collections in the UK. See A.
