During the Spanish-American War, Christy accompanied Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders to Cuba. Images from Christy's resulting portfolio, "Men of the Army and Navy" were published in periodicals such as The Century Magazine, Scribner's, Harper's Weekly and Collier's. Completed prior to Christy's famous depiction of the "Christy Girl," these military sketches introduced Howard Chandler Christy to the public.
