PRINCE GEORGE (1865-1936); PRINCE ALBERT VICTOR ("EDWARD") (1864-92); & SIBLINGS. An archive of autograph letters, photographs and ephemera from the children of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra to their tutor, the Rev. John Neale Dalton. The collection contains:- 1) Nine autograph letters signed, 6 by Prince George (later George V), the remaining 3 by Prince "Edward", Princess Louise and Princess Victoria, together 23½ pages, 8°, some with original pencil, crayon and watercolour illustrations loosely inserted, Buckingham Palace and the Royal Yacht Osborne, 9 August to 11 September 1877. In one dated Buckingham Palace, 19 August, Prince George writes: "I have been with dear Papa to Ostende in the Osborne to see aunt Vicky and cousins, and while I was there Papa had a letter from dear Mama to say that Apapa was in London and could not stop long, so he took me back with him to Cowes where [sic] we fetched sisters who were staying with Grandmama while I went with dear Papa to Ostende and we all went with him to London, but we are not allowed to live in Marlborough House, so we live in Buckingham Palace, but we go to see Papa and Mama every day, and we stay with them from the evening till the morning. Darling Eddy is much better and can stand now he has grown a great deal. I am not allowed to see him, which of course you know." In another dated Osborne House, 11 September, Prince "Edward" writes: "I do not know how long I am to stay here. I have a beautiful large room called the council room facing the sea and my bedroom next. I went on the Osborne in time for service and had lunch with Papa and Mama and stayed on the ship the rest of the day; yesterday we went round the Island, it was a beautiful day and not at all rough, the Empress and the Prince Imperial came too." 2) Autograph letter signed [Queen] ("Alexandra"), one page, 8°, Marlborough House, 16 February 1880, sending her sincere condolences on hearing of his father's recent and sudden death. Repaired on verso. 3) Two photographs of Prince "Edward," the first signed ("Eddy Jan. 31, 1873"), 4 x 2½in., the second signed ("Edward November 26th, 1875"), 6½ x 4¼in., image faded; with 2 photographs of Prince George the first signed ("George, Jan. 31, 1873"), 4 x 2½in., the second showing Prince George holding a lawn tennis racket and ball, signed ("George 1875"); with 17 other unsigned photographs, mainly of the Royal Family. 4) A quantity of related photographs, autograph letters and newspaper clippings including several photographs of Dalton.
