I know how highly the Commissioners value your counsel and cooperation, and I share...their high estimate of your work and service...." [another:] "Allow me to thank you for your long and full letter about Mr. Culbertson. I am very glad to have your estimate of him and the full account that you give of his experience ad abilities. I shall want the very best man I can get for the Tariff Commission..." [another:] "It gratified me very much to learn...that you were willing to do the country the very great service of observing and investigating the operation of the eight-hour law on the railroads. I...extend to you an official but by no means formal request that you will serve in that capacity..."--ROOSEVELT, THEODORE. You are one man in whom I most heartily believe, and I felt it was a great and genuine loss to the public service when you were not confirmed..."--ROOSEVELT, FRANKLIN DELANO. Typed letter signed as President, to George Rublee, Washington, D.C., 12 September 1942. one page, 4to, boldly signed, on White House stationery , expressing his gratitude for a letter of support: "It is good to know that you are so fully in accord with the objectives of the address...."
