PRESIDENTS AND FIRST LADIES]. WILSON, [THOMAS] WOODROW. Typed letter signed in full as President to Marion J. Verdery, Washington, D.C., 24 August 1914. 1 page, 8vo, White House stationery , a letter written shortly after the death of the President's wife at the White House, on 6 August 1914. Her death so traumatized Wilson that he confided to an aid his wish to be assassinated: " I want you to know how real a comfort it was to me to get your letter of sympathy. It is very delightful to feel the warm touch of a friend's hand at such a time, and your letter has served to give me strength and courage." -- WILSON. Typed letter signed in full as President to George S. Johns, Hot Springs, Virginia, 28 December 1915. 1 page, 8vo, White House stationery (new return address typed in) . "It was very gracious of you to think of us...and you may be sure that your message was deeply appreciated. Our warmest good wishes go out to you for the new season." -- HARDING, WARREN G. Typed letter signed in full as President to Dr. William Miller Collier, President of George Washington Univ., Washington, D.C., 12 May, 1921. 1 page, 8vo . On a diplomatic post: "...Pray do not have any further anxiety about an appointment to Peru. I have always understood that to be a very attractive post and there is important work to be done there...I am sure the Secretary of State would not wish to assign anyone to a post...which is not in very way agreeable to accept." -- ROOSEVELT, FRANKLIN DELANO. Typed letter signed to Norman C. Miller, Washington, D.C., 11 June 1934. 1 page, 4to . A letter of congratulations for Bishop Warran Candler, President and Chancellor of Emory College: "...I want to join his friends in this deserved tribute and to express my hearty congratulations to him and to the nation of his invaluable services ands his contribution to our moral and spirtual uplift." -- ROOSEVELT, ELEANOR.
