Studies of male and female figures, circa 1580, three pen and brown ink and grey wash on fine laid paper, depicting a male traveller walking, a woman in profile leaning forward, and a woman leaning over, all bearing the initials S.R., the first two with the artist George Clausen's ownership blindstamp (Lugt 539), 95 x 60 mm (3 3/4 x 2 3/8 ins, 95 x 52 mm (3 3/4 x 2 1/4 ins), and 75 x 60 mm (2 7/8 x 2 3/8 ins) respectively, pale scattered foxing, unframed (Quantity: 3) Provenance: Collection of Carlos Alberto Cruz; Offered at Sotheby's, London, 23 September 2021, Old Master and British Works on Paper, including works from the Collections of Carlos Alberto Cruz and the Late Timothy Clowes, lot 18 Two other studies, executed by the same hand, depicting a man in a cloak and a bearded man holding a staff, were sold at Christie's, New York, 10 January, 1990, lot 99 (as Circle of Jusepe de Ribera . These drawings also bear the initials: S.R., which must signify an old attribution to Salvator Rosa
