POTTER, BEATRIX. Peter Rabbit's Bookshelf. A wooden bookcase designed to hold a complet set of the Peter Rabbit Books. Circa 1934. 23 volumes, 12mo, original paper boards, some rubbing and wear; housed together in a double-shelved fumed oak bookcase which measures 14½ x 11 in., with hinged top with original printed paper label (loose). The lower shelf is designed to hold the 19 larger (regular) sized books and a shelf above to hold the 4 smaller books (i.e. Miss Moppet, Appley Dappley, Cecily Parsley & A Fierce Bad Rabbit). The set of books included date from circa 1935, and are all original except for Peter Rabbit (which is a replacement volume). This appears to be the earliest version of the "Bookshelf" as it was advertised circa 1934 in only this one style. Subsequently, in 1935, it was offered not only in this style, but also in light oak both at 716 or Mist Blue, Pale Green, or Primrose at 1016 (these prices did not include the books). (23)
