POST MEDIEVAL GOLD AND INSCRIBED RING WITH BLACK ENAMEL AND DIAMOND Hallmarked 1832 AD A flat-section hoop with rectangular panels giving crenellated edges, black enamel fill; cross quadrate plaque with black enamel fill, central inset diamond with void to the underside; inscribed to the inner face '21 Octr. 1839 Joshua Battye Obt.', maker's mark 'SS&EF', hallmarks of a profile bust, crown '18', lion's head (London) and 'r' for 1832. 2.79 grams, 20mm overall, 17.08mm internal diameter (approximate size British N, USA 6 1/2, Europe 13.72, Japan 13). (3/4"). Very fine condition. Provenance Property of a Suffolk lady; formerly in the Deago collection, by descent from the vendor's mother.
