Venice: Gabriel Giolito de'Ferrari, 1559. 2 books in one volume, 4to (220 x 150 mm). 40 ff., in italics, in Italian. Printer’s device to title page depicting a phoenix. Woodcut head pieces and chapter initials throughout, most with historiation. Later vellum, gilt title to spine. Condition : some leaves lightly browned mainly to margins; light wear to extremities, covers slightly bowed. Provenance : cancelled ink inscription to title; Arthur Hugh Smith Barry Marbury Hall (armorial bookplates). an interesting treatise on dueling. Added at the end of “libro secondo” is a discourse to praise the House of Savoy. [With:] LYSER, Johann (1631-1681). Polygamia triumphatrix … London: 1682. 4to (200 x 152 mm). Contemporary calf. spine gilt. Condition : leaves toned, some light dampstains; rebacked, extremities worn, corners bumped. rare complete third edition of Lyser’s defense of polygamy, which was allowed according to the Bible and natural law.
