[Pont-à-Mousson] BEDEL, Jean La vie du très-révérend Père Pierre Fourier dit vulgairement le Père de Mataincour, réformateur et général des chanoines réguliers de la Congrégation de Notre Dame. Seconde édition, reveue, corrigée et augmentée par l'autheur. Pont-à-Mousson, J. Guilleré, Sm. 4to: [8]-567-[pp. (occ. stains, wormholes and wormtracks in inner margins). Contemp. calf, double gilt-ruled covers, gilt orn. spine with raised bands, red edges (sl. rubbed, head and tail missing, wormholes to spine, joints partly split, label pasted on front cover). Second edition (1st of the biography of Saint P. Fourier (1565-1640), canon regular, ardent defender of free education. He helped in the creation of the Canonesses Regular of St. Augustine, congregation dedicated to the care of poor children. He is considered as one of the pioneers of the Counter-Reformation, and actively committed to children's education. He is considered i.a. as the inventor of the blackboard and its use in the classrooms. Books printed à Pont-à-Mousson are rare. Ref. BnF. - Not in Goldsmith (BL). Prov.
