A bound volume of 36 etchings and engravings from A Collection of Etchings and Engravings in Imitation of Drawings from Various Old Masters, 1734-42, 36 etched and engraved plates by Arthur Pond and Charles Knapton after Girolamo Mazzola ('Parmigianino'), Giacomo Cortese, Giovanni Barbieri ('Guercino'), Raphael, Claude, Luca Cangiagio [Cambiaso], Giacomo Borgognone, Polidori Caravaggio, Annibale Carracci and others, various sizes, loose and mounted, the largest 44 x 28 cm, Earl of Yarborough, Brocklesby bookplate, all edges gilt bound in later half morocco, spine lettered in gilt 'Etchings by A.Pond', joints and edges rubbed, folio (Qty: 36) Originally published as A Collection of Etchings and Engravings in Imitation of Drawings from Various Old Masters, Being Facsimiles of their Respective Performances, Chiefly by Arthur Pond & Charles Knapton (London: John Boydell 1734-42 and later) Arthur Pond (c. 1705-1758), engraver and portrait artist, who painted the portraits of Alexander Pope and the Duke of Cumberland, used mixed-method engravings to reproduce old masters in collaboration with the artist Charles Knapton (1700-1760) to produce the above work.
