Polo Grounds Triple Seat Section With Dual "NY" Figural Ends

Estimate
US$5,000 - US$7,000
Price realised:
US$9,600
Beschreibung:

Polo Grounds Triple Seat Section With Dual "NY" Figural Ends As the home of the Giants from 1891 to 1957, the Polo Grounds will always be remembered as one of baseball’s grandest ballparks. The New York Mets brought baseball back to the Polo Grounds in 1962 and 1963, but in 1964 the park was torn down to make room for housing projects, leaving only memories and a few surviving original seats to sustain its legacy. This triple seat section has been beautifully restored with precise details. Its most important design feature is the two original figural "NY" logos on both ends, indicating that this rare trio served as an aisle unto itself. The three "curved back" wooden seats, feature the numbers "1" "2" and "3" respectively, stenciled in black along the backrest and are fully functional. A descriptive plaque on seat "2" has an image of the Polo Grounds. One of the back middle legs has broken off, however the seats stand freely and steadily. The piece measures 64 1/2" in length, 17" in width and 29" high.
