Condition: Good - Case material: silver - Diameter: 58 mm - Mineral glass - Weight: 156 grams. Silver pocket watch, Waltham ‘Wm Ellery - Explorer case’, +/- 1881 Description: Silver pocket watch, diameter: 58,0 mm, thickness: 20,2 mm, weight: 156 gram. The movement is made by the American Waltham Watch Company, model ‘Wm Ellery’, serial number “1617182”, made around 1881. The movement has 11 jewels and a compensation balance wheel. The movement is lever-set and can be set by pulling a lever located underneath the bezel. The case is made by the American Waltham Company and is stamped with silver hallmark (“sterling”) and serial number “11352”. The case is a so-called swing-out case, which means that the case has a solid caseback and the movement swings out to the front when the bezel with crystal is removed. Thereby, the case has a screw-down crown to make the watch dustproof, which was extremely rare in this period. Condition: The condition of the watch is good. The case has some small dents and scratches. The crown is in good condition with some scratches and screws down smoothly. The movement winds, sets and runs properly, but the accuracy on the long term hasn’t been tested. The movement has some non-original screws. The enamel dial has a hairline between 4-5 o’clock. The hands are original and in good condition and show no sign of corrosion, the second hand is too short. The crystal is an original mineral crystal and has some scratches.
