PLUTARCH of Chaeronea (c.56-120 A.D.). Opuscula moralia . Lyon: Sébastien Gryphe 1549. 2 parts in one volume, 8° (173 x 108mm). Woodcut device on first title, one diagram in the text. (Round wormhole in n5 and n6 with virtually no loss, library stamp at foot of c1, all references to Erasmus deleted, one of them on p.3 causing slight loss owing to ink corrosion.) Contemporary North Italian black morocco, attractive floral border round sides with decorative corner-pieces and an arabesque at centre (extremities worn). Provenance : Giovanni Paolo Octobello (ownership inscription on an endpaper) -- Aleotti family (ownership inscription, dated 1736, on title) -- Domus Prob. S.J. Prov. Ven. Med. (stamp on title) -- Compagnia del Gesú(book label and stamp on title).
