PLATO (427?-347 B.C.). Opera Omnia. Text in Greek, edited by Aldus Manutius and Marcus Musurus. Venice: in aedibus Aldi et Andreae Soceri, September 1513. 2° (282 x 182mm). Ruled in red throughout. Woodcut Aldine device on title and verso of final leaf. 17th-century sheep gilt, covers with the centrally placed arms of comte Armand de Monchy D'Hoquincour, bishop of Verdun [Olivier 2042], surrounded by a semée of fleur-de-lys alternating with mallets, spine in seven compartments with raised bands, red morocco lettering-pieces in two, the others with overall gilt tooling, g.e. (covers with slight damage to the surface of the leather.) Provenance : Armand de Monchy D'Hoquincour (1637-1679, inscription, dated 29 August 1669, noting the presentation of the book to:); Jesuit College Verdun (to be given to); Louis Genin (as a second prize for Greek oratory); Milton Hall, Peterborough (booklabel). A FINE COPY OF THE EDITIO PRINCEPS IN GREEK. On Armand de Monchy D'Hoquincour, Olivier notes that "Ce prélat faisait orner de son fer les livres qu'il donnait en prix au Collège des Jésuites de Verdun".
