PINE, John. The Tapestry Hangings of the House of Lords: representing the several engagements between the English and Spanish fleets in the memorable year 1588 . London: J.Pine, 1739. 2° (510 x 360mm.). Engraved title (lightly spotted), letterpress dedication, 2pp. subscribers list, 24pp. text, 5 double-page engraved charts and 10 double-page views, each printed in green within black decorative borders after Lempriere and Gravelot, 3 hand-coloured engraved charts of England, Cornwall and Devon and the Thames (one with outer margins slightly shaved, one marginal repaired tear). Modern half calf. Pine's work, the fine plates depicting the defeat of the Armada, is of considerable historical importance, since the original tapestries, designed by H.C. Vroom and woven by Francis Spring of Haarlem were destroyed by fire in 1834.
