A WWII Luftwaffe Hanhart Pilots watch reputedly belonging to Hauptmann Herbert Treppe who flew Messerchmitt Bf110 G2 "1B-AX" over Norway, the Hanhart chronograph wristwatch with black dial, Arabic numerals and luminous hands, signed hanhart 17 STEINE, in plated case, the back plate stamped ‘BODEN EDELSTAHL WASSERGESCHUTZT STOSSFEST’, on a black leather strap, with two letters of provenance, one stating the following ‘This packet contains the letter of Mrs Girbig Widow of Werner Girbig whos a famous German writer (Luftwaffe) in which she says that the Hanhart Armwatch is from her husband her husband has the Hanhart from Mr Herbert Treppe former pilot in the German Luftwaffe (DG-S, DC-26, Z6-13) 1939-45. So Mr Treppe had this Hanhart watch on his arm the whole war through’. With various copied photographs. Hauptmann Herbert Treppe (1914-84) served during WWII with Jagdgeswader 5 (JG5) Eismeer which was a Luftwaffe Fighter Wing. Eismeer (Ice Sea) was created to operate in the far North of Europe namely Norway, Scandinavia and northern part of Finland, being based in Norway. Treppe has three confirmed victories with JG5, two Bostons on 15 June 1943 and one B-24 on 28 September 1944. He was appointed Kommandeur of IV. ZG26 on 30 October 1944. (1)
