Photography - Advertising - Local Interest - a collection of glass plate and celluloid negatives, of Robinsons of Chesterfield, showing manufacturing, industrial and social scenes, advertising; etc, early 20th century and onwards (approx. 600) Robinsons & Sons, Ltd., of Chesterfield started manufacturing packaging in 1839 when J.B. Robinson purchased a round box business in the town after two-hundred years of the Robinson's potting ceramics. The business thrived, expanded and employed a large workforce over just short of two centuries before removing their factory operation in 2005 to Lodz, Poland. Throughout its history Robinsons was successful in its bids to produce the packaging for well known British brands, including Quaker Oats and Smarties, to name but a few.
