Photographic Views of Exeter Author: Bedford, Francis Place Chester Publisher: Catherall & Prichard Date: No date Description: 10 mounted albumen photographs interleaved with blanks. Gilt-stamped cloth. 11.3x15.5 cm (4¼x6"). In the latter half of the 19th century, small format albums of great public schools and universities became quite popular. Francis Bedford began his career as an architectural draughtsman and lithographer, before taking up photography in the early 1850s. He helped to found the Royal Photographic Society in 1853. In 1854, at Marlborough House Queen Victoria commissioned him to photograph objects in the royal collection. Lot Amendments Condition: Rubbing and staining to cloth; a bit of silvering and light wear to photographs; very good overall. Lots sold without reserve are sold “as Is” and are not returnable under any circumstances.
