FIRST EDITION of this indispensable work on the life and activities of Sir Thomas Phillipps, Baronet (1792-1872), the greatest collector of manuscripts of all time, and one of the outstanding English eccentrics of the nineteenth century. Munby (1913-1974) was for many years librarian of King's College, Cambridge (see A.R.A. Hobson's detailed biography in DNB 1971-1980). Vol. V contains an excellent index to all volumes. Laid in first volume: Munby's obituary notice from the London Times and program and menu of the Phillipps Centenary Dinner, 4th July, 1972, at Stationer's Hall, London, under the chairmanship of Viscount Eccles (arranged by Lionel and Philip Robinson).
