Sommerliche weite Landschaft in summarischer Malweise. Philippen absolvierte eine Lehre zum Goldschmied und studierte an der Kunstgewerbeschule Pforzheim und an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Der Künstler arbeitete zunächst als Goldschmied, wandte sich aber seit 1965 wieder verstärkt der Malerei zu und experimentierte mit selbst hergestellten Farben, oft mit Beimischungen etwa von Sand.
