Dr. Quayle was best-known for his research in gun ballistics conducted through his electric "spark" photography, which documented sound waves and air disturbances as a bullet was fired. Dr. Quayle was a scientist with the National Institute of Standards and Technology before he joined the Peters Cartridge Company, an ammunitions manufacturer.
