PHILIP, George & Son Ltd. The Astroglobe, London [circa 1934]. An unusual glass star-globe, comprising a glass sphere, diameter 6 inches (15cm), overall height 11 inches (28cm). The sphere, engraved with the celestial equator, plane of the ecliptic, the north star and the principal stars of the main constellations, is filled halfway with blue liquid, the base sealed with a rubber bung and attached glass rod with metal pointer at the end, the sphere resting on a rubbed coated metal ring with metal stand screwed into the wooden base. The pointer and glass rod rest on a brass crescent-shaped scale calibrated in degrees of latitude, with sliding adjustable brass disc and printed scale of hours. The base with inset compass and maker's label, contained in original wooden storage box with card degree circle and separate instruction sheet pasted to the sliding cover of the box. A curious experimental astroglobe (provisional patent number 35972/34) constructed to illustrate the movement of the stars relative to a position of latitude and the time of day.
