[Philadelphia & Pennsylvania] Morris, Robert Autograph No place, no date. 2 1/4 x 3 in. Boldly signed "Robt. Morris" in ink on vellum, likely cut from a document and also signed by Thomas Willing. With one abrasion traversing the last letter in Morris's signature. Framed with a portrait of Morris. Robert Morris (1734-1806), a merchant, was a Founding Father of the United States and a signatory of the Declaration of Independence. He is often called the "Financier of the Revolution," for his work as Superintendant of Finance during the Revolutionary War. He later served as as a United States Senator for the state of Pennsylvania. Thomas Willing (1731-1821) was an American merchant who served as Mayor of Philadelphia from 1763 to 1764, and later as President of the Bank of North America and the First Bank of the United States.
