Philadelphia Exposition of 1876: A Monumental American silver-plated "Chief and Squaw" centerpiece, Meriden Britannia Company, Meriden, CT, the figures attributed to Theodore Baur, 1876 the shaped lozenge-form base decorated with demi-roundels of buffalos, mounted warriors, Native Americans in canoes, and trophies of weapons, the side feet applied with simulated bead and bear-claw necklaces, the end feet modeled as displayed owls centered by shields, mounted with two well-modeled figures of a brave with mocassins and leggings, fur cloak, fringed skirt, tomahawk, braids and eagle headdress, offering a bird to a squaw dressed in fringed dress and fur cloak, herself offering an ear of corn; separated by an arch with geometric designs and shield, supporting a flaring bowl with commemorative inscription, the foot with figures of Indian hunters, buffalo, and deer, geometric border, the handles mounted with fully modeled seated figures of Indian children with furs, necklaces and skullcaps, mounted under base with Meriden Britannia signature roundel height 34 1/4 in. (87cm); length 40 3/4 in. (103.5cm)
