PETTUS, John. Fodinae Regales. Or the History, Laws and Places of the Chief Mines and Mineral Works in England, Wales, and the English Pale in Ireland. As also of the Mint and Mony. With a Clavis Explaining some difficult Words relating to Mines, &c. , London: by H. L. and R. B. for Thomas Basset, 1670. 2 (285 x 190mm.), engraved portrait of the author by W. Sherwin, 2 engraved plates and 2 engraved coats-of-arms in the text (portrait stained at edges, both plates cropped, occasional light marginal staining to text, one leaf cleanly torn without loss), contemporary calf (dampstained, rubbed, upper joint cracking). FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, the title page inscribed, "Tho. Walcot, Ex dono Authoris." Hoover Collection 634; Kress 1270; Wing P-1908. Sir John Pettus was the deputy governor of the royal mines in England and Wales and served both Charles I and II. He also translated into English the work of the German metallurgist Lazarus Ercken.

Sherwin, 2 engraved plates and 2 engraved coats-of-arms in the text (portrait stained at edges, both plates cropped, occasional light marginal staining to text, one leaf cleanly torn without loss), contemporary calf (dampstained, rubbed, upper joint cracking).
